Nela Rio is an internationally-recognized Argentine-Canadian author, artist, and arts organizer living in Fredericton where, for many years, she taught Latin American literature at St Thomas University. She retired in 2003. Her research specializes in Spanish American Colonial Literature, 16th /17th C., and in Hispanic-Canadian Literature.
Nela has been widely published in literary journals and anthologies in Canada, Spain, U.S.A., Honduras, Brazil, and in Argentina. She is the President of the Registro Creativo of the Canadian Asociation of Hispanist; the founder and organizer of the Annual Multilicultural Multilingual Poetry Recital (since 2000), and the Outspoken Art/Arte Claro, for the elimination of all forms of violence against women.
